Remember the loss of the “unsinkable” ship  off newfoundland on that night to remember in 1911 .. and the band played on! A detailed replica of the doomed cruise liner the remains of which lie nearly 2 miles under the sea. ONLY 651 OF 2,207 PEOPLE SURVIVED Titanic was a 282 meters long 46,328 tons transatlantic liner that could cruise at 25 knots. Billed as 'Unsinkable', she was sub-divided by  watertight hull heads designed to prevent flooding should the hull be pierced. Unfortunately, she hit a massive iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland. The berg sliced through her iron plated hull flooding several compartments, consigning her to a watery grave on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. The sinking of this great ship has kept the public interested for several reasons. The number of deaths including celebrities and important people, such as the richest man in the world at that time. There were reports of a mystery vessel close by, which, if it had chosen to, could have saved all the people, and rewritten the history books. It did not. Captain Rostron’s heroic race to the scene of disaster aboard Carpathian is also noteworthy. The rediscovery of the wreck of the Titanic in 1985 by Dr. Ballard’s team, and the subsequent making of a feature film, have helped to keep the tragedy in the forefront of the publics minds.
